Library Story Time.
For the past year and a half, Kylan and I have been weekly visitors (at least) of the North Canton Public Library. She has always loved books and as soon as she started enjoying them (around 6 months) we have had a steady rotation of books from the library. As she got a little older, we started to make use of the video and cd selection as well. Not to mention that the children's department has a fantastic play area, craft table, puppet theater, aquarium, etc. Last spring (probably when Kylan was about 13-14 months old) we started to take walks to the library once a week once it was nice enough outside. It's not very far from our house and seeing as our family only has one car, it was a nice way for Kylan and I to get out of the house and do something while Ryan was out and about with meetings and such for work. We'd spend the first bit of time playing and looking around. Then we'd pick out our books and/or movies and cds, load up the stroller and take them back home for a reading session. It was a great way to keep Kylan interested in books since there were always new ones to choose from. Anyhow, this tradition has continued and we are faithful library members. So when I saw signs up for a winter story time session we made plans to start attending. Up until this point I know Kylan would never have been able to sit still and listen to someone reading "from afar". She's all about having her face basically into the book as we're reading. But we thought we'd give it a go now that she's a bit older. Even though she was a little more than a month shy of the age group (the group was 24-35 months and she was just 22 1/2 months when it started) we signed her up and started going. Her attention span has seemed to vary from week to week- sometimes she sits and pays attention, other times she refuses to sit on the floor with the other kids and runs around the outskirts of the room climbing on chairs. Either way, she's already started to remember some of the little short songs they do and is excited to go each week, so we're keeping it up!
