On Monday, Patty and Rod (Ry's parents) came down to visit Kylan and take me out to dinner for my birthday. We realized while they were here that both grandmas have the same name- "Grandma" which, now that Kylan can really understand names and even tries to repeat some, poses a bit of a problem. My Dad is called "Grandpa", Rod is called "Papa", so Kylan can distinguish the two. But both grandmas are "Grandma" thus far, so Kylan got a little confused. We'd say "Where's Mommy?" and she'd point to me. We'd say "Where's Papa?" and she'd point to Rod. We'd say "Where's Daddy?" and she'd point to Ryan. But when we'd ask where Grandma is, she'd look at Patty but then look around, truly confused. You could tell her little brain was working hard to try and figure out why 2 different people have the same name- especially when only one of them was there and she was looking to see if the other one was there since we said the name. We're going to have to come up with a different name for one of the grandma's soon. The reason Rod is Papa is because Kylan's older cousin, Lily, started that and calls him that. So that was easy. But Lily calls Patty "Mama", which doesn't work for us because that's what Kylan calls me right now. She can't say "mommy", just "mama"- so that's who I am at this point. So if we would try to refer to Patty as "Mama" like Lily does, Kylan would still be confused because she thinks "mama" is me. What to do, what to do? Oh well, either way we had a nice time together that night.
